Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of over 100 viruses. Some of these viruses are linked to certain cancers and conditions, such as genital warts. It is the most common sexually transmitted infection but usually clears on its own. However, when it doesn’t clear, it can cause serious health issues.
You should consider HPV testing if you are sexually active, especially if you have several sex partners or you are concerned about your sexual health. Women over 25 require HPV testing and a Pap smear.
Early HPV detection can help prevent cervical cancer development and other HPV-related conditions. Knowing if you have HPV or not can also give you peace of mind and inform future sexual health decisions.
It is advisable to avoid sexual intercourse, douching, or using vaginal creams 24 hours before the test to ensure accuracy.
Our experienced and friendly healthcare provider will guide you through a quick and simple procedure, usually involving collecting a cervical cell swab for women or a urethral swab for men.
We ensure prompt delivery and confidentiality of results and provide full support regardless of the outcome.

HPV doesn’t always cause symptoms, making testing important. When symptoms occur, they can include genital warts and, in women, cervical cell changes, which Pap tests.
HPV spreads through intimate skin-to-skin contact, not only intercourse. It can spread through oral, vaginal, and anal sex, including other close skin-to-skin contact.
HPV has no cure, but in most cases, HPV infections clear on their own without treatment. Treatments are available for health issues caused by HPV, such as cervical changes and genital warts.
Yes, you can book an appointment to have HPV warts removed via electrocauterisation, which has proven to be extremely effective. The service is provided by our Consultant Gynaecologist for both men and women.
Women between ages 21 and 29 need a Pap test every three years, while those aged 20 to 65 need a Pap test and HPV test every five years, or only a Pap test every three years. Routine HPV testing isn’t recommended for women under 21 and men.
The HPV vaccine is recommended for preteens (boys and girls) at age 11 or 12, although the vaccine can be administered at age 9. Vaccination is recommended for everyone until age 26 if they didn’t get the complete vaccine earlier.
The best prevention for HPV is vaccination. Consistently using condoms correctly can reduce the risk of HPV transmission, but it doesn’t offer full protection because HPV can infect areas condoms do not cover.
